{"id":8874,"date":"2026-06-17T10:37:13","date_gmt":"2026-06-17T08:37:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/acnt-test.camk.edu.pl\/?p=8874"},"modified":"2026-06-17T12:28:49","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T10:28:49","slug":"dr-miroslav-macko-awarded-a-sonata-21-grant-from-the-national-science-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/acnt-test.camk.edu.pl\/?p=8874","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Miroslav Macko awarded a SONATA\u201121 grant from the National Science Centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"TypographyPresentation TypographyPresentation--medium RichText3-paragraph--withVSpacingNormal RichText3-paragraph HighlightSol HighlightSol--buildingBlock\">We are pleased to announce that our postdoctoral researcher, Dr. Miroslav Macko from Astrocent and the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences (CAMK PAN) has been awarded a SONATA\u201121 grant from the National Science Centre (NCN) for the project: <em>STAR: Scalable Tracking for Advanced Rare\u2011event detection<\/em>.<\/div>\n<div class=\"TypographyPresentation TypographyPresentation--medium RichText3-paragraph--withVSpacingNormal RichText3-paragraph HighlightSol HighlightSol--buildingBlock\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"TypographyPresentation TypographyPresentation--medium RichText3-paragraph--withVSpacingNormal RichText3-paragraph HighlightSol HighlightSol--buildingBlock\">The project, funded with PLN 1 460 100, aims to develop next\u2011generation detector technology for the search for neutrinoless double beta decay (0\u03bd\u03b2\u03b2) &#8211; a key process that would prove that neutrinos are Majorana particles and could contribute to the explanation of the matter\u2013antimatter asymmetry of the Universe.<\/div>\n<div class=\"TypographyPresentation TypographyPresentation--medium RichText3-paragraph--withVSpacingNormal RichText3-paragraph HighlightSol HighlightSol--buildingBlock\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"TypographyPresentation TypographyPresentation--medium RichText3-paragraph--withVSpacingNormal RichText3-paragraph HighlightSol HighlightSol--buildingBlock\">The STAR project will explore an innovative combination of dual\u2011phase liquid\u2011argon TPC technology doped with xenon and the Timepix4 high\u2011granularity charge\u2011readout ASIC. This approach has the potential to deliver the scalability, energy resolution, and precise tracking required to reach sensitivities capable of probing the normal ordering of neutrino masses. The project will include detector simulations, development of track\u2011reconstruction software, construction of a small\u2011scale prototype, and demonstration of electron\u2011track reconstruction.<\/div>\n<div class=\"TypographyPresentation TypographyPresentation--medium RichText3-paragraph--withVSpacingNormal RichText3-paragraph HighlightSol HighlightSol--buildingBlock\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"TypographyPresentation TypographyPresentation--medium RichText3-paragraph--withVSpacingNormal RichText3-paragraph HighlightSol HighlightSol--buildingBlock\">Dr. Miroslav Macko is a physicist specializing in rare\u2011event searches, namely neutrinoless double beta decay. Before joining CAMK PAN and Astrocent, he worked at the Czech Technical University in Prague, where he acted as deputy physics coordinator of the SuperNEMO project.
